Many people think pest control is something that is needed only during the warmer months of the year. However, during the colder months, and even in the middle of winter, people still call us with pest control issues.
During the warmer months you might see an increase of activity in pests such as:
- Wasps
- Box Elder Bugs
- Fleas
- Cockroaches
- Silverfish
- and more
While during colder months you are more likely to see more activity from these pests:
- Rodents (mice and rats)
- Spiders
- Ants
- Stink Bugs
- Beetles
- and more.
Of course you might see any of these pests year around, but they are more prominent during certain seasons. There are many pests that die during winter, such as wasps. Most wasps will die during the cold months, and the queen will survive to start a new colony at the beginning of the next summer. You also see more activity of certain species during colder months, as they need the warmth of your home in order to survive. You are more likely to see spiders inside your home during the winter, than during the summer
So, how does this affect your treatments?
Your treatments should still be fairly consistent, maybe with a bigger gap in colder months. For example, most people like to treat every 60 days during summer months, and every 90 days during the winter months, and that is a great solution.
While spraying is also a year around thing, it might be good to ask for some bait boxes during the winter months as part of your treatment. At AIMVO, we offer those for free, and we use much more bait boxes for mice and rat control during the colder months.
In conclusion, all we can say is that if you don’t want to have pest trouble in the warmer months, we would encourage you to continue with your treatments year around.
